Facial Rejuvenation techniques have been a part of Chinese Medicine for thousands of years and follow the same principles of treatment used when addressing the body: restoring balance by promoting the flow of energy, called Qi. When the flow of Qi becomes sluggish, due to poor diet, stress, dehydration or other factors, the skin (our body’s largest organ) can age prematurely. By increasing the circulation of Qi in the face, we are able to reverse these negative effects and restore a more youthful appearance. I like to say, my patients leave my office after a Micro Current Facial, wearing their “vacation face”….relaxed, open and beautiful!

After completing my initial studies in Facial Rejuvenation techniques with Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, I received advanced training with Barbara Berger, incorporating the Microcurrent protocols into my facial treatments. The purpose of the microcurrent is to deliver very small / sub-
sensory,  electrical currents to specific components of the facial muscles to tone, and in some cases relax those muscles. As the muscles tone or relax, fine wrinkle lines diminish, and sagging tissues lift, giving the patient a more youthful appearance. In addition to the actions on the muscles themselves, the microcurrent triggers the body’s natural skin enhancement chemicals at a cellular level, increasing the production of collagen and elastin. This action results in the reduction of fine wrinkle lines and a firming, smoothing and rehydration of the skin.

Microcurrent Facial can have many benefits, including:

  • Reduce and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve circulation of blood / Qi  to the face
  • Improve facial color
  • Aid in lymphatic drainage
  • Decrease puffiness
  • Improve muscle tone in the face and neck
  • Firm jaw line and reduce jowls
  • Increase collagen production
  • Even skin tone

Your Microcurrent Facial session with me includes a full body constitutional acupuncture treatment to address the underlying factors that may be contributing to the signs of aging showing on the face. I often include acupuncture points to support digestion to ensure the absorption of nutrients that are beneficial to the skin, points to balance hormones and relieve stress, and techniques to stimulate the lymphatic system, which drains damaging toxins and waste from the body.

Overall, this is a very relaxing and pampering treatment with no downtime!

How Best to Prepare:
It is always a good health practice to stay well-hydrated, and I recommend that you strive to drink at least 100 oz of water daily. This is especially important while receiving Microcurrent treatments, as hydrated tissues conduct the electrical currents more efficiently. And again…this current is sub-sensory, which means there is no discomfort!

Your facial treatment includes cleansing and moisturizing, but arriving for your appointment make-up free is preferred.

Dress comfortably, in loose clothing, as for any acupuncture session, to make accessing the acupuncture points on the body easy.

How to prepare:
The results can vary by individual and skin type, and are influenced by the patient’s lifestyle and nutritional habits, as well as genetics. Although the microcurrent facial treatment has been known to produce an immediate and rejuvenating effect, consistent treatment will provide more cumulative long-term, lasting results. A series of 10 - 12 treatments initially (ideally, once a week) is the most effective way to achieve long lasting results, with monthly maintenance treatments after the series is completed. This treatment is so lovely, you will undoubtedly look forward to your next session, each time!

Fees: $125. (approx. 1 hr.)

Since the last time I wrote a review, I have been getting regular micro-current facials from Rebecca. I think you’d call it “facial rejuvenation”. She applies two little electric current conductors to my my facial muscles in order to stimulate them and “lift” them. I may not be describing it correctly. Whatever it is, after the treatment look more refreshed and I feel more relaxed. There are a few things I’ll spend good money on and that’s my skin and my health. Rebecca fits both bills perfectly. Not only does she do this micro-current facial on me, she also hits a few of my chakras with some acupuncture needles. Divine.
Fast forward to my most recent visit. I was all congested and phlegmy from a cold my body was fighting. I wasn’t contagious, it was merely the remnants from whatever was attacking my body. Rebecca knew exactly which points to needle to help clear up my congestion. There was one point near my knee(!) that I felt instant action upon my sinuses! After a few points at the base of my skull (more relief), she proceeded with the micro-current facial. She sent me home with some Chinese herbs for congestion that were decently priced.
I’ll sum it up and say that after my visit, I felt relief, my face was refreshed and my chi was aligned.
Seriously, go see Rebecca for the facial thing. It’s never too late.
